Street Art Today

Art has changed greatly. Artists have more things to work with, which allows them to create outstanding pieces. Art comes in many forms, and that's where a person's true creativity is shown. Street artists have made in impact in todays world of art.

Think Before You Ink: Girl With Red Balloon | Sartle - Rogue Art History

Above is a piece of street art by Banksy created in 2002 located in London. Banksy is a well-known and is interestingly a pseudonymous street artist. The color in this piece is unique because the only color shown is in the red ballon that is floating away from the little girl. The contract is very well done in the little girl. The depth is shown by the way Banksy used his gift of shading. From my viewpoint, this piece of art shows the little girl letting go of her childhood. But of course, "There is always hope."

Above is a piece of art created by Banksy called Napalm located in the Stowe Gallery. There appears to be Ronald McDonald and Mickey Mouse skipping with a girl that seems to be in distress. I believe this piece gives off uneasy vibes. Ronald and Mickey are eye-catching because they are the only ones that have color. I also believe that the girl in the middle catches a lot of attention because she is in the center of the piece, and her facial expression is uneasy.

Above is a piece of street art called Nobody Likes Me by iHeart located in Stanley Park. The boy seems to be upset that he has no comments, likes, or followers on social media. This is a powerful piece of art that shows how social media can affect a person's feelings. The contrast used is amazing. The shading adds the 3-D effect. The only bright color appears to be in the shirt and his cell phone.

Above is another piece of art by iHeart. The text is so vibrant is catches a lot of attention. The contrast seems to be dark, and appealing. The sharp lines in the shirt creates the realistic effect of wrinkles. To me, the message behind this piece of street art shows how one person could be untrue to one other because of social media.

  1. I liked your choice of art. The pieces you have chosen to speak to modern times, like the little girl texting. I think street art has been a way for people to express themselves and advocate for things they believe in. The pieces you chose were more on the dainty side of street art. I've definitely seen more vulgar street art. I feel like these would make good postcard photography. How do you see these pieces relating directly to your post-modern era, and what is it about street art that you like the most?

  2. I have always enjoyed seeing street art. Some people have a natural talent for making their art look life-like. If I didn't know it was artwork I would have really thought a little girl was sitting on the steps from afar. The pieces you chose are very simple and meaningful.

  3. I found your choice in street art super interesting. Generally when I think of street art I think big, and bold and color. Most of your pieces were much more drab, and don't take up too much space on the wall. I like that you chose them though, I think it shows a different side of street art which really caters to the modern narrative of creating unexpected things.

  4. I love Bansky's work. I love how small his work is while still carrying a big impact. His work is always what I think of when I think of street art. I haven't heard of iheart before, I see a lot of similarities between the two artists.
