My Introduction

     Hi, my name is AnnaLayne Ulroan and I'm 18 years old. I am from a small rural village near Bethel called Oscarville; There are about 70-80 residents. I enjoy bird hunting and fishing. I also love snowmachine riding and boat riding. For my last three years of high school, I attended the Bethel ANSEP Acceleration Academy. That academy allowed me to get a head start in college and take college courses. 

    

Nature's Beauty
     I find the art of photography very appealing. This is actually one of the pictures I took. I tend to take a lot of pictures of nature because it's very captivating. 

    In the past I used to paint simple pieces of art on canvases, but I took a break for a few years. About a month ago I decided to paint a couple of simple pieces and they turned out pretty good for someone that isn't great at painting or drawing. I would say I am more of a photography art person rather than a painter.

    That is a gorgeous photograph. I am such a sucker for golden hues. I love how the brightest focal point is off center. You also have the golden mean 1/3 vs. 2/3 for the horizon line.

    I too am from a rural village, King cove. Maybe you've heard of it, maybe not. Hunting and fishing was all I did back home living in the city has been such an adjustment. I really like the photo you took, is it on a boat? Painting can be hard, and although I don't believe to be good at painting I do find it relaxing when I find a moment to do it.

    AnnaLayne, I love your photo! It somehow reminds me of this idea, " to live in the present is to be, to live anywhere else is to wish to be ". Making the most of our time is the only way to live life to its fullest! Also, coolio that you went to ANSEP in Bethel. I used to live on the same river, in Kalskag. I hope you have a great time in this course!

      Above is a painting created by Jean-Honoré Fragonard which is called The Swing created in 1767, this painting is an example of the Rococo style. The young man on the bottom left of this painting was a part of the french royal court, and he asked Fragonard to create this painting of him and his partner; The man in the bottom left corner was a bishop, and he is pushing the lady. The young man was apparently hiding in the bushes so he can look up his lovers dress. This painting gives off playful and erotic vibes. This painting was actually a bit too "naughty" to be displayed in the public. There is a lot of flow in this painting. AnnaLayne Ulroan Art Analysis

     This piece of art, "Sunset Cloud, Green River, Wyoming," was created by Thomas Moran in 1917; It was gifted to the Smithsonian American Art Museum by Bernadette Berger.     Moran used both warm and cool colors in this painting. Sections of the clouds, mountain, and ground each have a warm touch to them. The cool colors of the sky, trees, and majority of the ground allow the warm colors to pop out. The tone creates a lot of depth into this piece of art and makes it look 3-dimensional. The trees have a lighter tone on the right side where the sun is, and it gets darker towards the left. The stream on the left side appears to have a lighter tone which grows darker as it goes further away. The left side of the mountains each have a darker tone. A majority of the ground has a darker tone probably because a cloud is covering where the sun would be touching.        I would most definitely own this beautiful masterpiece if possible! I would...

Alaskan Masks

Masks are a tradition in many cultures, and I am going to be highlighting the masks made in Alaska. Most hand-made masks by Alaskan Natives represent the spirit of animals in a human form, and they were used during ceremonies. Interestingly a majority of masks were usually used once.   Above is a mask located in Good News Bay, Alaska, called the North Wind Mask created in the 20th century. It was made using drift wood, baleen, feather, paint, and cotton twine. I believe this is a mix of a whale and birds, because of the the whale tail and fins, and the feathers. A sound of wind was created by the dangling pieces of wood at the bottom of the mask. The white dots around the mask are assumed to be specks of snow.
